Sixty years ago, John Cage premiered Erik Satie’s Vexations at the Pocket Theatre in the East Village with the Pocket Theatre Relay Team. Satie called for 840 repetitions of his composition, a piece in four iterations, which depending on tempo can take up to 24 hours. In Cage’s production, a very young David Del Tredici was one of the performers and he returns 60 years later, along with Vexations veteran Richard Cameron-Wolfe, our festival pianists, and a group of formidable faculty performers and young artists from NYU. Del Tredici will play the final repetition at 9pm marking the grand opening of The Village Trip 2023, and a celebration of the brilliant new Paulson Center.
