Bringing It All Back Home to Washington Square

The Village Trip’s signature free concert in Washington Square Park this year celebrates girl power and sister acts! We are thrilled to welcome Tish and Snooky, glam punk rock legends of the Lower East Side; Janie Barnett, acclaimed as both session singer and Americana soloist; and BETTY, the indie rock trio who are Gloria Steinem’s favorite band. A program that’s as diverse as the Village itself.

Geographically and spiritually, Washington Square has always been the center of the Village. Bohemia’s beating heart, it’s a place to gather, whether to protest or just hang out, often with a guitar – and to dance! The signature event of each year’s Village Trip festival, Bringing It All Back Home to Washington Square has down the years featured Suzanne Vega, Steve Earle, Bobby Sanabria and His Multiverse Big Band with special guest Janis Siegel, and the Klezmatics. This year’s Park extravaganza brings together a stellar selection of New York City talent: Tish and Snooky, Janie Barnett, and BETTY, a trio of women known worldwide for their soaring harmonies, upbeat live shows, and non-stop activism. Indeed, as Gloria Steinem puts it, the band “spreads the most lasting kind of revolution.”

Declares BETTY: “Since our first gig together in 1986, BETTY has been an indie activist artist band. We create and perform passionate music that exemplifies the 1960s slogan popularized in Greenwich Village and beyond—‘the personal is political.’ Washington Square Park continues to be the heart of NYC’s progressive movements and an epicenter for change. There is an electricity that runs from this power point that can and has ignited the world. We’re thrilled to plug in, tune up and rock out there with the legendary gathering, The Village Trip!"

Storms forced the cancellation of last year’s concert so don’t miss this year’s must-see party in the Park on the concluding weekend of the sixth Village Trip. Come on down and join the fun.
