Unruly women readily found a berth in the Bohemian Village, allowing them to pioneer new politics, new lifestyles and new aesthetics. What factors in the large scale of the city and the small scale of the neighborhood made the Village so welcoming? What role did DIY educational, cultural and social networks play in knitting them together and making their ideas take fire? How did mavericks such as Emma Goldman, Elizabeth Gurley Flynn, Elizabeth Irwin, Isadora Duncan, Yvonne Rainer, Henrietta Rodman, Dorothy Day, Mabel Dodge, Louise Bryant, and later Eleanor Roosevelt, Lorraine Hansberry, Nina Simone, Yvonne Rainer, Lucinda Childs, Jane Jacobs and Angela Davis, and so many others find each other and found communities of dissent? This walking tour celebrates women who questioned moral, political and sexual norms, breaking codes of public decorum as they forged a creative community in the Village.
