Carman Moore is a composer with performances by the New York Philharmonic, the Cleveland Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony, and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center among his many credits. He was the first new music critic for the Village Voice in the 1960s and ’70s. Carman created the libretti for Alvin Singleton’s music drama Truth, and for the Bre’r Rabbit-themed operas by Nkeiru Okoye. He founded the Society of Black Composers, and has taught at Yale University, Queens and Brooklyn Colleges, the New School, and Carnegie-Mellon University. Carman was chosen as a Guggenheim Fellow in 2013 and a Composers Now Visionary Composer of 2020.
