Cygnus, founded in 1985 by guitarists William Anderson and Oren Fader, has been in the thick of American music’s wild transformations since 1985. Pairs of winds, strings and guitars, the ensemble’s Klangideal bridges between the Elizabethan Broken Consort (instruments from different families) and psychedelic electric sounds. A residency at the Library of Congress in 2012 led to the Off-Broadway show Sounding Beckett, which enjoyed two weeks of sold-out performances at the Classic Stage Company in the East Village. Harold Meltzer’s Cygnus piece, *Brion* was a Pulitzer finalist; Anna Weesner’s *My Mother in Love* won the Virgil Thomson Award of the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
