Lisa Moore is a multifaceted Australian-born pianist, recording artist, and an avid collaborator. Based in New York City since 1985, The New Yorker has described her as “visionary” and “New York’s queen of the avant-garde piano”. Her playing has been singled out by The New York Times for its “life and freshness” and “fragility and tenderness”. Moore was the founding pianist for the award-winning Bang On A Can All-Stars electro-acoustic sextet from 1992-2008. She has also collaborated with the London Sinfonietta, Steve Reich Ensemble, New York City Ballet, Australian Chamber Orchestra, and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Moore has performed throughout Europe, UK, USA, and Asia – on some of the world’s great stages – including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Sydney Opera House, La Scala, Royal Albert Hall, and the Musikverein.
She has released eleven solo discs and more than thirty collaborative discs, in music ranging from Leoš Janáček to Philip Glass, Elena Kats-Chernin, and Julia Wolfe. Moore’s 2016 disc The Stone People – featuring the music of John Luther Adams, Martin Bresnick, Missy Mazzoli, Kate Moore, Frederic Rzewski, and Julia Wolfe – was selected by The New York Times Top Classical Albums 2016 and Naxos Critics’ Choice 2017. Gramophone writes of her 2015 Mad Rush Philip Glass disc “what becomes abundantly clear is Moore’s highly developed, intuitive and nuanced approach to this music, one which has been allowed to evolve and refine over a number of years”. In 2021 Moore was featured on two new CD releases: The Planet on the Table – works by Martin Bresnick (Cantaloupe Music) and The Redness of Blood – works by Jerome Kitzke (New World Records). In 2022 Moore will released her second all-Rzewski disc ‘no place to go but around’ on Cantaloupe Music.
